Delhi: A City of Heritage, Culture, and Progress

Delhi, the capital of India, is a city where ancient history and modernity exist side by side. Located in the northern part of the country, it is not only a political center but also a hub of culture, commerce, education, and tourism. With a population of over 20 million, Delhi is one of the most populous metropolitan cities in the world. It is divided into two main parts: Old Delhi and New Delhi, each offering a distinct flavor and experience.

Old Delhi, once the capital of the Mughal Empire, is rich in history and architecture. Its narrow lanes, bustling bazaars, and age-old monuments speak of a glorious past. The Red Fort, built by Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of India’s independence. Nearby is the Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, which reflects the grandeur of Mughal architecture. Chandni Chowk, a busy market area in Old Delhi, offers a sensory overload with its street food, traditional goods, and historic vibe.

In contrast, New Delhi was designed by British architect Edwin Lutyens in the early 20th century and serves as the seat of India’s government. It is home to wide roads, stately government buildings, and landmarks like the India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan (Presidential Residence), and Parliament House. The contrast between the orderly layout of New Delhi and the chaotic charm of Old Delhi makes the city uniquely fascinating.
